UAV emergency release mechanisms (also known as UAV ejection systems or UAV lock release mechanisms) are critical actuators in UAV launch and recovery systems. They are widely used in scenarios such as vehicle-based launches and catapult launches of large fixed-wing UAVs, as well as the takeoff and landing of ship-based UAVs. Prior to launch, large UAVs must be securely connected to the launch or tow vehicle via a locking mechanism to ensure safety and reliability during transportation and pre-flight preparations. The moment the launch command is issued, the release mechanism must perform the locking release action with extremely high reliability, enabling the UAV to smoothly detach from the launch rack and enter flight mode.
Our miniature electric linear actuators are precision drive components specifically designed for UAV emergency release mechanisms. The actuator is housed within the cavity of the release mechanism itself. Through its extension and retraction movements, it precisely controls the locking and release states between the locking mechanism and the UAV. Compact and space-efficient, the actuator fits perfectly into the limited internal space of the release mechanism. With millisecond-level response times and extremely high motion consistency, it provides reliable mechanical assurance for every safe takeoff of the UAV.

Key features and benefits
Millisecond-level response ensures zero delay during takeoff
UAV launch windows are often extremely brief, requiring the release mechanism to complete the unlocking process as quickly as possible after receiving the takeoff command. Our miniature linear actuators offer extremely high response speed—the time from receiving the control signal to the actuator completing its retraction is minimal, ensuring the UAV is successfully released within the optimal launch window so that no takeoff opportunity is missed.
Precise operation, zero errors in locking and release
Ejection mechanisms impose extremely stringent requirements on the precision of actuator movement—when the actuator extends into the locking mechanism, it must ensure a secure connection between the UAV and the launch platform; when retracting, it must guarantee complete release of the locking mechanism. Our linear actuators provide precise stroke control and extremely high repeatability, ensuring every extension and retraction is executed with pinpoint accuracy, fundamentally eliminating lockups or accidental ejection caused by incomplete movements.
Ultra-compact design, engineered for tight spaces
The internal space of the release mechanism is extremely limited, requiring the integration of multiple components—including the actuator motor, locking mechanism, feedback module, and receiver module—within a confined cavity. Our miniature linear actuators are known for their ultra-compact design, featuring a short installation length and ample thrust. They fit perfectly into the cavity of the release mechanism itself, reliably performing locking and release operations without encroaching on the layout of other core components.
High vibration resistance, effortlessly handling in-vehicle launch environments
Large UAVs are subjected to continuous vibration and shock during vehicle transport and launch preparation. Our linear actuators feature a high-strength transmission structure and a robust housing design, providing excellent vibration resistance. They maintain structural integrity and operational reliability even under severe transport vibrations and launch impacts, effectively preventing unintended release or jamming caused by vibration.
Long service life and maintenance-free operation, reducing total cost of ownership
UAV emergency release devices are often deployed in vehicle- or ship-based environments, where on-site maintenance conditions are limited. Our linear actuators feature a maintenance-free design, eliminating the risk of oil leaks associated with hydraulic systems and the issue of aging tubing in pneumatic systems. Validated through tens of thousands of endurance tests, they ensure stable operation throughout the device's entire lifecycle, minimizing maintenance requirements.
Built-in Hall sensors enable precise customer control
Our actuators feature built-in Hall sensors that provide real-time feedback on stroke position and operational status via pulse signals. This allows the customer's control system to precisely monitor whether the locking mechanism is engaged or disengaged in real time. The Hall sensor signals are output directly to the customer's controller, enabling the customer to independently program control logic and motion sequences. This ensures seamless adaptation to the diverse requirements of different drone models and launch methods, while enabling closed-loop control and self-diagnostic status checks.
High protection rating, confidently withstands harsh outdoor environments
UAV emergency release devices are often deployed in outdoor environments—from deserts to coastal airports, and from high-altitude regions to hot and humid areas. Our miniature actuators feature a high protection rating, providing full resistance against the corrosive effects of harsh natural conditions such as wind, sand, rain, snow, and salt fog. Utilizing corrosion-resistant materials and surface treatment processes, they operate stably across a wide temperature range from -30°C to +65°C.
Richmat's engineers provide end-to-end technical support—from needs assessment and solution design to product delivery—ensuring that our reliable miniature linear drive systems safeguard every takeoff and every moment in flight.
